Ospreys Grab Second Straight Shutout in Win Over Mercer

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida men's tennis team grabbed straight-set victories in all six singles matches en route to its second consecutive shutout, cruising to a 7-0 victory over Kennesaw State on Saturday afternoon at UNF Tennis Complex.

The Ospreys began the day by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn its seventh-straight doubles point. Senior Julien Belair and sophomore Timo Kranz opened play with an 8-1 win over Vincent DeLise and Arnav Mohanty at No. 2, before seniors Pedro Davisson and Leonardo Nahar took an 8-3 win at No. 3 to clinch the point for UNF.

Senior Daniel Sotomarino and sophomore Norbert Nemcsek then raised the Ospreys' season-long doubles record to 23-13 with an 8-3 win at No. 1. The duo is now 6-0 in 2013.

UNF carried the momentum into singles play, as Kranz earned his first dual match victory of the year in dominant fashion, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Elbert Beekman. Belair then grabbed a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 to double the Ospreys' lead. The victory was Belair's sixth in a row, tied for the longest streak on the team.

Nemcsek also won his sixth-consecutive match, this one to clinch the match for UNF, as he downed Mohanty in a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2. The sophomore has not lost a match in singles or doubles since a singles loss on February 20 against 20th-ranked Baylor.

After the match was clinched, the Ospreys completed the sweep with three more straight-set wins. Nahar earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 and Davisson grabbed a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 before freshman Bernardo Craveiro won his second match in a row and and first at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over DeLise.

The Ospreys improve to 8-6 on the year with their win, including a 2-0 mark in A-Sun conference play. UNF has won each of its previous six matches and is now 6-1 at UNF Tennis Complex. Mercer drops to 2-10 with the loss.

UNF will be back in action on Monday, March 18, when it travels to Atlanta, Ga. to take on 75th-ranked Georgia State in a 10 a.m. dual match.
