ATLANTA, Ga. – University of North Florida women's tennis dropped a 5-2 match at Georgia State on Monday afternoon at the Sharon Lester Tennis Center.
Both of UNF's points came during the singles competition.
Lorena Aviles posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Tereza Lerova at No. 2.
Melanie Aguirre emerged with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 win against Maryna Kozachenko at No. 4 singles.
The Ospreys found themselves trailing early in the match after Georgia State picked up the doubles point.
Aline Berkenbrock and Aviles fell 8-5 to Abigail Tere-Apisah and Lerova at No. 1, while
Simona Weymar and
Rebeca Pereira dropped an 8-2 match to Whitney Byrd and Kozachenko at No. 2 doubles. However,
Danielle Day and Aguirre posted a 9-7 win over Masa Grgan and Martina Ondrackova at No. 3.
Also in singles, Berkenbrock lost to No. 54 Abigail Tere-Apisah 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 and Day fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to Byrd. Weymar dropped a 6-2, 7-6 (3) No. 5 singles match to Grgan and
Marina Cunningham fell at No. 6 singles to Chaimaa Roudami 6-4, 6-4.
UNF's next match is on Friday when the Ospreys open Atlantic Sun Conference play against USC Upstate at the UNF Tennis Complex. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
