TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida men's tennis team will wrap up its fall season this weekend as it competes in the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships on the campus of Florida State University.

“We're very excited to play in this tournament,” Head Coach Adam Schaechterle said. “Our region is one of the strongest in the country, so we're looking forward to playing against some of the best competition we could find.”

In doubles, senior Moritz Buerchner and sophomore Norbert Nemcsek will look to build on their historic run at the ITA All-American Championships, where they advanced to the semi-finals. They will be joined in the main draw of the doubles main draw by the pairing of seniors Julien Belair and Pedro Davisson.

Buerchner and Nemcsek are seeded third in the 44-team doubles bracket. The winning team will advance to face the other regional champions in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Buerchner, Nemcsek, Belair and Davisson will also compete in the singles draw. Buerchner is one of eight players seeded 9-16 in the 64-person bracket. The two finalists at the Southeast Regionals will move on to Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

On Thursday, freshman Bernardo Craveiro came within a single match of becoming the fifth Osprey in the main draw. After winning his first two matches over opponents from Georgia Tech and South Florida in the singles qualifying draw, Craveiro fell to Andrew Dromsky of Georgia Southern. His wins in the morning were his first collegiate victories.

“I'm very proud of the way Bernardo played today,” Schaechterle said. “He played very well and it was great to see him earn his first two wins.”

Play in both brackets is schedule to begin 9 a.m. on Friday morning.
