DeLand, Fla. – In a hard-fought, back-and-forth match, top-seeded No. 71 University of North Florida was upset by number four-seeded Stetson, 4-2 in the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Tennis Championship at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on Friday.

Both the doubles point and clinching singles point went to tiebreakers as the Hatters held on to advance to their sixth consecutive A-Sun Championship title game.

The two teams split a pair of doubles' decisions in the No. 1 and 3 matches. UNF won the No. 1 doubles as Daniel Sotomarino and Hleb Maslau picked up their 21st doubles win of the season with an 8-6 decision over Njal Stene and Chris Swanteson.

The doubles point came down to the No. 2 where Stetson's Maksim Levanovich and Didrik Berg edged Moritz Buerchner and Beauregard Treyz 9-8 in a tiebreaker to give the Hatters a 1-0 advantage.

Stetson (20-9) extended its lead to 3-0 in the early portion of singles as Levanovich defeated Maslau 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 and Alex Hackett defeated Treyz 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5.

UNF put the pressure on as the Ospreys (16-8) earned points from Buerchner 7-6, 6-3 against Stene in the No. 2 while Leonardo Nahar took a 6-3, 6-2  win in the No. 6 against Hans Adrian Riseng to cut the Stetson lead to 3-2.

Two simultaneous tie-breakers in the No. 3 and No. 5 singles matches were a battle between the two teams. Cesare Gallo clinched the needed point for the Hatters, securing a win over Daniel Sotomarino 6-4, 7-6 in the No. 3.

In the No. 5, Pedro Davisson battled with Stetson's Didrik Berg in a three set tiebreaker. Davisson took the opening set, 6-3 but fell in the second 6-4. The final set ended in a 6-6 tie and went unfinished due to time constraints.

UNF ends the season with a 16-8 overall record and went 9-1 in the A-Sun, earning the Ospreys' first regular season men's tennis title.
