Box Score TAMPA, Fla. – No. 71 University of North Florida men's tennis team fell to No. 45 South Florida, 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the USF Varsity Courts in Tampa, Fla.
The Ospreys (16-7) lost the doubles point, but picked up a win in the No. 2 match as Daniel Sotomarino and Hleb Maslau teamed up to defeat Romain Deridder and Yannick Yoshizawa, 8-4. Sotomarino and Maslau move to 19-4 on the season.
In the No. 1 doubles, UNF's Moritz Buerchner and Beauregard Treyz gave No. 60 ranked Lucas Jovita and Jamal Adderley a tough match as the Osprey pair took the Bulls' duo to a score of 9-8 (5).
USF (13-7) secured the needed singles wins for the match victory before the remaining contests were called due to the threat of inclement weather.
Sophomore Moritz Buerchner was in the third set of the No. 2 singles against Wael Kalini. The USF player had won the first match 6-2, but Buerchner had come back to take the second set, 7-5. The third set score was at 1-2 before the match was called.
UNF will be back on the court as the No. 1 seed for this week's Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Tennis Championship, earning a bye for the first round. UNF will be in action Friday, April 15 at 2 p.m. against the winner of the No. 4 Stetson vs. No. 5 Mercer match. Stetson is hosting the tournament April 14-16 at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand, Fla.
