JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – No. 75 University of North Florida men's tennis team defeated Atlantic Sun Conference opponent Mercer, 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.

UNF (8-6) grabbed the doubles point to get out to a 1-0 start in the match. Freshmen Beauregard Treyz and Anton Rabinov paired up in the No. 1 doubles and claimed an 8-1 victory over the Mercer (6-8) duo of Peter Tauchner and Evandro Rosindo.

In the No. 2 doubles, Daniel Sotomarino and Hleb Maslau continued their winning ways, picking up their fourth straight win and improving to 12-2 on the season with an 8-2 win over David Barton and Pierre Tafelski.

The Ospreys claimed a point in the No. 1 singles as Moritz Buerchner defeated Tafelski in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 6-0. Maslau also claimed a win in straight sets, defeating Tauchner, 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles.

In the No. 4, Leonardo Nahar defeated Rosindo, 6-3, 6-5 while Treyz secured a point with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Guilherme Frias in the No. 5.

UNF had three set battles in their other two singles matches. In the No. 3, Sotomarino fell, 6-3 to Fernando Armendaris in the opening set, but came back in the second for a 6-4 win. Armendaris secured the point in the tiebreak with a 10-5 score.

In the No. 6 singles, UNF's Pedro Davisson dropped a 6-4 decision to Barton in the opening set. Davission responded in the second set with a 6-1 win. In the tiebreaker, Barton held off Davisson for an 11-9 win.

UNF will be back on the court on Saturday, March 19 for a 2 p.m. match against Kennesaw State at the UNF Tennis Complex.
