Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's tennis team shut-out Georgia Southern, 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.
UNF (4-2) got off to a solid start, claiming the doubles point early with wins at the No. 2 and No.3 matches.
Senior Hleb Maslau and sophomore Daniel Sotomarino teamed up at the No. 2 to defeat GSU's (3-3) Alain Garrido and Sebastien Felt, 8-3. At the No. 3 freshman Beuregard Treyz and sophomore Leonardo Nahar claimed a win over Mark Paetz and Derrick Davison, 8-2.
In singles action, UNF claimed points at the No. 2, 3, 5 and 6 singles in straight sets to secure the match for the Ospreys. Sotomarino dropped Garrido, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 while Maslau defeated Matthijs Verdam, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3.
Treyz secured the 6-2, 6-4 decision over Edio Castanhel at No. 5 and freshman Pedro Davisson defeated Thomas Bekkers, 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 6.
In the No. 1 and No. 4 singles the Ospreys battled their respective opponents. Junior Moritz Buerchner fell behind 3-6 in the opening set at the No. 1, but rallied back to claim the second set, 6-3. Buerchner secured the point with a 10-3 decision in the tie breaker.
Nahar dropped the first set to Marco Osorio, 3-6 at the No. 4, but came back in the second with a 6-2 win. Nahar claimed the point with an 11-9 tiebreaker win.
The Ospreys will be back on the court on Sunday, Jan. 20 when they make the trip to Orlando to face Central Florida in an 11 a.m. match.
