JACKSONVILLE -- The University of North Florida volleyball team dropped a hard-fought Atlantic Sun Conference match Friday night against Belmont, 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 16-25, 21-25), at UNF Arena.

Carolyn Jenkins and Paige Pridgeon led the Ospreys with 11 kills each. Pridgeon also had 15 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. Nicole Baran had a match-high 25 digs, while Anna Budinska added 14. Casey Gionvanzzi recorded a match-high 38 assists.

Maggie Johnson had a match-best 18 kills for the Bruins.

“The team played better than what we have been,” said head coach Kevin Campbell. “Our team chemistry is strong. We are continuing to work on improving our aggressiveness when under pressure. We look forward to tomorrow and taking confidence to tomorrow's match.”

In the first set, UNF rallied from a late four-point deficit to win the set.  UNF chipped away at the deficit and tied the set 23-23 on a Belmont attacking error.  Several points later, Dagnija Medina and Julie Trembley came up with a key block that gave UNF a 25-24 advantage. Belmont evened the score at 25-25 on a UNF service error, but back-to-back kills from Medina and Jenkins allowed the Ospreys to take the opening set 27-25.

The Ospreys and Belmont battled it out in the second set, with neither team able to get a significant lead. After a Pridgeon kill deadlock the set at 21-all, the Bruins rattled off the set's final four points en route to taking the set and even the match 1-1.

Belmont built a seven-point, 15-8 lead in the third set. UNF pulled to five on three occasions, but the Bruins ultimately closed out the set with two kills from Johnson.

UNF held an early lead in the fourth set, taking a couple five-point leads, but the Bruins used two runs to eventually go up 21-16. The Ospreys pulled to within two behind a pair of Jenkins kills and a Belmont attack error, but the Bruins scored the match's next three points to take a 24-19 lead. UNF used another Jenkins kill and a Belmont error to fend off match point twice, but it was not enough as the Bruins got the final point they needed.

The Ospreys return to the court tomorrow with an ASun match against Lipscomb. Match time is set for 3 p.m., at UNF Arena.
