MIAMI - The University of North Florida men's tennis team scored points at the No. 1 and No. 6, singles, but No. 44 ranked University of Miami secured five points early to claim the 5-2 win over the Ospreys on Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on the Miami campus.

Sophomore Moritz Buerchner won in the No. 1 singles defeating Miami's No. 1 Waylon Chin in three sets. Losing the first set, 4-6, Buerchner rallied back in the second set with a 6-1 win. He secured the match with a 6-2 win in the third set.

In the No. 6, freshman Pedro Davisson secured the point for the Ospreys (0-1). He defeated Pedro Ast in straight sets with scores of 7-6, 6-2.

The Hurricanes (1-0) got off to the early lead, claiming the doubles point early. Miami won all three doubles matches. In the No. 1 Christian Blocker and Keith Crowley defeated UNF's Buerchner and Davisson, 8-3.

Senior Hleb Maslau and sophomore Daniel Sotomarino fell to Carl Sundberg and Ast in the No. 2. The doubles point had already been decided, but freshmen Anton Rabinov and Beuregard Treyz teamed up in the No. 3 and battled before falling to Eduardo Pavia and Chin, 9-8.

In singles action, sophomore Leonardo Nahar fell in the No. 4 , 6-2, 6-1 in the first completed singles match of the day to Pavia. The No. 3 singles was the second finish of the day with Sotomarino falling 6-4, 6-2 to Crowley.

No. 5 singles was the deciding match. Treyz fell to Gabriel Flores, 7-6, 6-0. Rounding out the singles finishes was Maslau at No. 2 where he fell to Blocker, 6-4 6-2.

The Ospreys will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 22 when they host Georgia State and Florida A&M. UNF and GSU will square off at 10 a.m. followed by the Ospreys facing the Rattlers at 4 p.m.
