UNF Falls to Central Michigan, 3-1

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of North Florida volleyball team fell to Central Michigan, 3-1 on Saturday morning during the Holiday Inn Charleston Riverview Invitational hosted by College of Charleston at Carolina First Arena.

Leading the Ospreys (2-10) was sophomore Paige Pridgeon with 12 kills. Senior Jessica Catelano added eight kills. Freshman Britt Claessens tallied 22 assists while sophomore libero Nicole Baran led on the defensive side with 11 digs.

The Chippewas (7-5) had a trio of players in double digit kills with Lauren Krupsky leading the way with 12. Lindsey Dulude and Val DeWeerd had 11 kills each. Catherine Ludwig posted 33 assists and Lisa Johnson notched 18 digs.

UNF and CMU went back and forth in the opening set and were tied at 11 before the Ospreys went on a run to take a 16-12 lead. The Chippewas never got anything going on the offensive side after that with UNF claiming the win in the first set 25-17.

In the second set, the Chippewas took an early lead, going up 19-9 at one point. UNF looked to make a run late in the set, closing the gap to seven 19-12, but CMU closed out the set, winning 25-15 and tying the match at 1-1.

Central Michigan controlled both the third and fourth sets. The Chippewas claimed a 25-9 win in the third as several lengthy services runs propelled them through the match. In the fourth set, CMU secured the match with a 25-8 win.

UNF will be back on the court again today against Radford at 5 p.m.
