FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team defeated Florida Gulf Coast, 6-1 on Thursday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Myers, Fla. UNF improves to 7-1 overall and picks up its first Atlantic Sun win.
UNF picked up the doubles point early, winning two of the three matches over the Eagles (2-5, 0-2 A-Sun). Sophomore Aline Berkenbrock and junior Raquel Castro teamed up to defeat Priscillia Villemonda and Iris Rendon, 8-2 in the No. 1. The Ospreys secured the doubles point with juniors Victoria Krook and Lauren Holton downed Eva Sambrano and Farah Leclercq, 8-3 in the No. 3.
Berkenbrock also picked up a win in the No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Villemond. Castro defeated Jessica Sweeting in a close three set match in the No. 2 with scores of 6-3, 6(3)-7, 10-5.
Sophomore transfer Danielle Day downed Leclercq, 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 while Krook picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Melissa Narzissenfield in the No. 4 singles. Holton rounded out the singles wins with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Jen Evans in the No. 5.
The Ospreys will continue A-Sun play on Saturday, March 6 in DeLand, Fla. when they face Stetson at 2 p.m.
