Ospreys Falter at Lipscomb

North Florida falls in Atlantic Sun opener.

BOX SCORE

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of North Florida volleyball team fell to Atlantic Sun Conference foe Lipscomb, 3-0 (14-25, 17-25, 14-25) on Friday, Sept. 11 in Allen Arena. The match marked the A-Sun opener for UNF.

North Florida will return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 12 in a 3:00 p.m (EST). match at Belmont in the Curb Center.

Freshman outside hitter Paige Pridgeon led the Ospreys (4-4, 0-1 A-Sun) with seven kills while tallying seven digs. Junior middle blocker, Kaley Read, added five kills and a team-high eight digs. Junior setter Jessica Catelano posted 18 assists.

“We did not play our best match against Lipscomb,” said UNF head volleyball coach Kevin Campbell. “Paige was able to really bring a lot of energy to the match, but we were just not able to get things going tonight. We are going to regroup and are looking forward to our match at Belmont tomorrow.”

Leading the Lady Bison (5-3, 2-0 A-Sun) was Meghan Hinemeyer with 13 kills while Alex Kelly added 11. Jake Pease posted 29 assists.

In the opening set, Lipscomb took control early, going up 18-8. The Ospreys looked to make a run, cutting the lead down to seven at 19-12, but the Lady Bison lead was too great as Lipscomb took set one, 25-14, to go up 1-0 in the match.

The two teams battled in the second set with eight ties, the last at 14. Lipscomb then went on a run to take a 20-15 lead. The Ospreys cut the lead down to four on the next rally of a kill from Pridgeon. That is as close as UNF would come as Lipscomb closed out the set with a 5-1 run to win 25-17 and take a 2-0 advantage.

Lipscomb went on several service runs to open the third set, giving the Lady Bison a 17-7 advantage. The Ospreys looked to go on a run of their own, closing the gap down to eight, but the Lady Bison regained possession to go on another run. The deficit was too great as Lipscomb picked up the win in set three, 25-14, to win the match.
