BOCA RATON, Fla. – Evening its road record and grabbing its 16th victory of the season, the University of North Florida women's tennis team won its fourth match in a row Thursday afternoon with a 5-2 decision against Florida Atlantic in non-conference action.
The Lady Ospreys, who boast a 16-4 overall record, moved to 4-4 away from home while FAU fell to 6-16 overall and 6-12 at home.
Using 8-3 scores at each doubles position, UNF took down the Owls in all three slots to take early command of the match. Sophomore Lauren Holton kept the momentum in the Lady Ospreys' favor with a straight-set win at the No. 6 spot to jumpstart singles play.
Freshman Aline Berkenbrock was a straight-set winner at the top position, but FAU tallied wins at the Nos. 4 and 5 positions to prevent UNF from clinching the match and keep the home squad's chances alive.
At the No. 3 position senior Ina Durcakova notched a 7-5 third-set win to seal the match for the Lady Ospreys. Her singles record rose to 15-8, including a 3-3 mark at the third position. Junior Raquel Castro provided the final decision, completing a win in a fiercely competitive match.
Castro took hold of a 7-6 opening-set win with a 13-11 tiebreaker score before wrapping up the match in the second set by a 7-5 score.
UNF's season will come to a close Friday as the Lady Ospreys take on No. 40 Florida International at 2 p.m.
