UNF Falls to Lipscomb

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.Despite three players tallying double digit kills, the University of North Florida volleyball team fell to Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic Sun action at UNF Arena.

 

With scores of 25-15, 25-18, 25-12, Lipscomb (22-3, 17-0 A-Sun) picked up the 3-0 win to remain unbeaten in A-Sun play. The Ospreys fall to 10-16 and 4-12 in the league.

 

“Despite the score, I feel that we played a high level of volleyball,” said head coach Kevin Campbell. “We were a little inconsistent at times and that really hurt us. We played eight sets this weekend, and I think for seven of the eight sets we played a really high level of volleyball. Even though it is late in the season I continue to see us improving every day.”

 

Senior outside hitter Agata Dawidowicz and junior middle blocker Kaley Read led the Ospreys with 11 kills each. Freshman outside hitter Paige Pridgeon added 10 kills. Junior setter Jessica Catelano had 30 assists while freshman libero Nicole Baran notched 16 digs on the defensive side.

 

Leading the Bison was Meghan Hinemeyer with 11 kills. Alex Kelly added nine kills and added 12 digs on the defensive side. Jake Pease tallied 31 assists and Erin Pierce had a match high 20 digs.

 

The two teams traded points to open the first set, but Lipscomb broke open the scoring, taking a 14-8 lead. The Ospreys were unable to get a run going as Lipscomb picked up the 25-15 win and taking a 1-0 lead in the match.

 

Lipscomb jumped out to an early lead in the second set, up 11-7. UNF responded with a run to tie the set at 13. The two teams tied against at 15 and UNF took its first lead at 16-15 off a Dawidowicz kill. Lipscomb regained possession on the next rally and took an 18-16 lead. The Bison closed out the set with a 7-2 run to win 25-18, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

 

The Bison took control of the third set early, jumping out to an 11-3 lead. The Ospreys were unable to overcome the deficit as Lipscomb secured the set and match with a 25-12 win.

 

North Florida will be back on the court on Friday, Nov. 6 when it travels to East Tennessee State for a 7 p.m. match in Brooks Gym.
