Box Score
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Even though it stayed right with a tough Belmont squad in every set on Saturday, the University of North Florida women's volleyball team fell just short, 3-0 (20-25, 21- 25, 22-25) at UNF Arena.
Junior Agata Dawidowicz led the Lady Ospreys (6-6, 4-3 Atlantic Sun Conference) at the attack with a team-high 10 kills, while sophomore Kaley Read and freshman Julie Fye each had 12 digs. Read also had eight kills and five blocks while hitting .333 for the match.
After trailing in the early going of the first set, UNF took control by going on an 8-1 to take an 11-7 lead. Moments later, Read threw down a service ace to help the Lady Ospreys go up 15-11, but from there, the Bruins stifled UNF and went on an 11-1 run to seal the set.
A Dawidowicz kill put UNF up 4-3 in the second set, but it was only time the Lady Ospreys held the lead. Belmont went on a 5-1 run, but UNF battled back to pull to within 11-10. But an 8-2 run by the Bruins helped them cap the set two win and go up 2-0 in the match.
Read put up three kills and sophomore Madie Belvin had nine assists in the third set, but it wasn't enough to counter the Bruins' attack, led by Maggie Johnson's five kills. UNF hit .167 in the final set.
Belvin finished with 21 assists, while Fye had a season-high three aces. It was the first time this season the Lady Ospreys were swept at UNF Arena.
UNF will try to get things back on track when it steps out of conference against Bethune-Cookman at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in Daytona Beach, Fla.
