UNF runs out of gas against Lipscomb

Lady Ospreys not able to grab last three sets

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After getting out to a fast start on Friday night, the University of North Florida women's volleyball team ran out of gas and dropped a 3-2 decision (25-20, 25-22, 14-25, 15-25, 8-15) to Lipscomb at UNF Arena.

UNF (6-5, 4-2 Atlantic Sun Conference) hit .237 through the first two sets and put up five blocks while holding the Lady Bisons to a .136 clip in getting out to a 2-0 lead. But over the last three sets, Lipscomb pulled it all together with a .338 hitting percentage to stifle the Lady Ospreys.

Junior Agata Dawidowicz recorded a season-high 15 kills, while sophomore Danielle Lerch put up 11 kills and sophomore Madie Belvin tallied 40 assists. Belvin and Dawidowicz each had three aces.

The Lady Ospreys trailed 17-13 in the first set but put together an amazing 6-0 run to go up by one. Lipscomb was able to knot it up at 20, but two kills by Dawidowicz and a rare over kill by defensive specialist Chelsea Rabe helped propel a 5-0 run by UNF to close out the first set.

UNF went up by as many as seven in set two and looked like it was going to run away with it, but the Lady Bisons chipped away at the lead and came back to deadlock the match at 22. Despite the admirable rally, the Lady Ospreys went on to regain control when sophomore Kaley Read notched back-to-back blocks along with Dawidowicz and freshman Shawna Metcalf to lead UNF to the second set win.

Lipscomb (7-6, 5-0), currently tied for first in the A- Sun, put away the third set early when it jumped out to a 6-0 lead. UNF was able to get as close as 13-10 on an ace from Dawidowicz, but the Lady Bisons used a 9-3 run to seal the win.

The fourth set was exactly the opposite of the third, with each team trading leads in the early going. With the set tied at nine, the tide turned on the Lady Ospreys when Lipscomb went on a 9-0 run, which effectively grounded UNF.

Belvin got the Lady Ospreys off to an exciting start in the final set with an ace, but from there, UNF's fortunes weren't as positive. Lipscomb went on to score the next four points and held that margin for most of the way before it closed out the match on a 5- 1 run to settle on the final score.

Freshman Lizzy Manno tallied a team-high 15 digs, while Rabe and Read each had 10 digs. Read also finished with five blocks. Senior Bary Rasmussen put up eight kills. The loss was UNF's first at home this season.

The Lady Ospreys will return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday against Belmont at UNF Arena. The match will be shown live on ASUN.TV.
