Box Score
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida baseball team jumped out to an early lead over No. 21 Florida but couldn't keep the pressure on and lost 5-3 on Tuesday.
UNF (18-14) left 10 runners on base and was 2- for-10 with two outs. The Ospreys were shut out after scoring three runs in the top of the second. Senior Andy Warren went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double.
Warren got the party started with a two-run jack in the top of the second that drove in sophomore Andrew Hannon, who led off the inning with a double to the left center gap. Later in the inning, the Ospreys juiced the bases and took advantage of Mullaney's inability to find the strike zone, which allowed senior Mike P. Smith to score on a walk by sophomore Preston Hale.
The Ospreys got into hot water in the bottom of the third, allowing the Gators to tie the game at three. UF did all the damage with two outs, beginning with Matt den Dekker's RBI double to right center. Cole Figueroa's single through the right side drove in den Dekker and caused UNF to take Lott out of the game. The Gators added another run when Josh Adams doubled to right center of RHP John Frawley to drive in Figueroa.
Frawley was able to shut the Gators down in the fourth and fifth innings, which included a climactic fifth where he fought out of a bases-loaded jam. After Frawley was able to get Figueroa to ground into a double play, the Gators stroked three consecutive singles. Frawley escaped out of the inning when UF's Clayton Pisani hit a hard grounder to short that hit Bryson Barber in the foot.
Sophomore RHP Tucker Pryor entered the game in the sixth to relieve Frawley and started off on a roll, getting UF's Justin Pigott to ground out and striking out Buddy Munroe. Pryor got out of the inning when den Dekker was forced out at second base.
But the Gators were able to figure out Pryor in the bottom of the seventh, taking a 4-3 lead on an RBI single by Piggot, who was previously 1-for-25. UF put up another run in the next inning when Figueroa slipped a single through the right side to drive in Avery Barnes.
Pryor (3-2) picked up the loss after allowing two runs on four hits in 2.0 innings of relief. Lott gave up three runs on four hits in 2.2 innings of work. Hannon, Smith and sophomore Ryan Lowe all finished with two hits each. Senior Travis Martin extended his hitting streak to nine games.
The Ospreys will try to avenge their loss at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday against Florida at McKethan Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on WBOB- AM 1320 in Jacksonville. Live stats will be available on UNFOspreys.com.
