TAMPA, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team was at a loss for words at the plate on Wednesday night in a 7-1 loss against South Florida.
The Ospreys (8-5) didn't record more than one hit in an inning until the top of the ninth when senior T.J. Gaudy and freshman Michael R. Smith hit back-to-back singles. Smith's base hit drove in sophomore Andrew Hannon to score, who reached on an error.
Smith led UNF with a season-high three hits, while Gaudy with 2-for-4 with a double. Sophomore Preston Hale also recorded a double. The Ospreys left eight runners on base and were 2-for-14 with runners on base.
Junior starting RHP Ty Pryor (1-3) picked up the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in 5.0 innings pitched while striking out five.
The loss snapped UNF's three game winning streak overall and five game non-conference winning streak. The Ospreys had won five of their last six.
UNF will return to action this weekend with a three game series against Atlantic Sun Conference foe Belmont in Nashville. The series will begin at 4 p.m. eastern time on Friday and will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. ET. The Friday game will be aired on ASUN.TV.
