JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's tennis team broke out of its early slump in a big way on Friday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex, blasting Lipscomb 7-0 in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener for both teams.

The Lady Ospreys (3-5, 1-0 A-Sun) dominated at all three doubles positions to capture the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead out of the gates. In singles, things did not get any easier for Lipscomb (0-4, 0-1 A-Sun). UNF took all six singles matches in straight sets, including an impressive 6-0, 6-0 victory by Natalia Sanchez at the No. 1 position. Sanchez has now won four straight singles matches.

Other winners in singles for UNF included Vanessa Sanchez at No. 2, Ina Durcakova at No. 3, Maria Melihova at No. 4, Victoria Krook at No. 5 and Carolina Melo at No. 6. 

"After a good week of practice, our girls came out with high intensity and a better level of tennis today," UNF assistant coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "We are definitely getting to the level that we want to be at, but we are not there yet. We are glad we had a great day in our first conference match. We have a tough weekend ahead of us, so we need to stay focused and keep trying to play our best tennis."

UNF returns to action at home on Saturday when it faces A-Sun foe Belmont at the UNF Tennis Complex. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
