Final Stats
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (30-28, 30-28, 30-23) to Kennesaw State on Friday at UNF Arena.
UNF (3-13, 1-2 Atlantic Sun Conference) was led by Maegan Weisert, who saw her first full match this season at outside hitter after fully recovering from an injury to her hitting shoulder. Weisert notched team-highs of 11 kills and nine digs. Freshman Madeline Belvin recorded 26 assists.
The Owls (3-15, 1-1) outhit the Lady Ospreys .214 to .161 and was led by Jenny Black's .323 (14-4-31) performance. UNF was hurt by 14 service errors and tallied only four aces. Three of the aces were recorded by freshman Kaley Read.
KSU got out to an early 6-3 lead in the first game, but the Lady Ospreys charged back to go on a 7-4 run and take a 10-7 lead on a kill by senior Claire Yonutas. UNF took its largest lead at 20-16 on an error by KSU's Lindsey Plotner, but the Owls came back to tie it at 24. After a quick 3-0 run by UNF that extended the Lady Ospreys' lead to 27-24, the Owls marched back and went on a 6-1 run to pull out the win.
In game two, the Lady Ospreys turned the tables and took the early 3-0 lead. However, the Owls grabbed the momentum to and led for most of the game. It wasn't until UNF trailed 25-21 that the Lady Ospreys went on a 5-1 run that was sparked by two Read aces to tie the game at 26. But KSU took control again to go up by two, which was enough to effectively put the Lady Ospreys away.
The final game was neck-and-neck in the early going, but a 6-3 run allowed the Owls to take a 16-13 lead. UNF wasn't able to get any closer than three the rest of the way, and the match ended on an attack error by Weisert.
UNF will try to even its conference record at 3 p.m. tomorrow against Mercer at UNF Arena. Live video and live stats will be available on UNFOspreys.com.
