
UNF opens season
with tie for fifth

BIRMINGHAM , Ala. (Sept. 25, 2007) - The
University of North Florida golf team rallied to close out
the Shoal Creek Collegiate Championship with a tie for
fifth, shooting a team total of 296 in Tuesday's final
round.
The Ospreys shot the fourth-best round of the day and
jumped from ninth place into a tie for fifth on the back
nine.
"Going into the 11th hole we weren't having a very good
day," UNF head coach Scott Schroeder said. "We were
able to finish strong and beat some solid teams."
Freshman Chris Kennedy couldn't hold onto his lead in
the individual standings, but did manage a top-10 finish in
his first collegiate event after shooting 77 on Tuesday.
Michael O'Neal followed Kennedy with a tie for 13th after
firing his second consecutive 74. Sophomore J.C. Horne
put together the best round of the day for the Ospreys,
shooting a 1-under-par 71. Freshman Major Forbess
closed strong with a 74 as well, while Jeff Dennis closed
his tournament out with an 81.
Texas Tech took home the team title, shooting 873, and
finishing 14 strokes ahead of the Ospreys.
UNF is back in action next week when it heads to Notre
Dame for the Gridiron Classic.
