MOBILE, Ala. - The University of North Florida men's tennis team dropped its season finale 6-1 to a red-hot and nationally ranked South Alabama squad on Sunday afternoon.
UNF (12-8) took a win at No. 1 doubles when Leonardo Gomes and Javier Ferrin knocked off USA's Marek Sramek and Robert Hodel 8-1. The Ospreys couldn't duplicate that effort at the No. 2 and 3 doubles positions, however, in losing both to fall behind 1-0 in the match. In singles, the 26th-ranked Jaguars (18-4) then swept five of the six matches in straight sets.
The Ospreys got their lone point at No. 4 singles, when USA's Robert Hodel retired in the third set after the players split 6-7, 6-2 out of the gates.
Seniors Gomes and Glen Marshall played their final matches for UNF, while senior Matias Sigal did not play for the Ospreys in his final career opportunity.
