JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - University of North Florida women's basketball guard Shandrea Moore banked in a lay up with 11 seconds remaining to help cap off a thrilling finish for the Ospreys in their 54-51 win over Lipscomb at UNF Arena on Thursday night.
UNF (8-20, 7-10 Atlantic Sun) led for almost the entire game, but the Bisons came back to knot the score at 51 with 48 seconds remaining. Freshman forward Shennette Sheffield just missed a lay up and sophomore forward Jennifer Guldager fouled Lipscomb's Dana Carrigan with 15 seconds left on the clock. But Carrigan wasn't able to connect on the front end of the bonus, giving the Ospreys one last chance to seal the win in regulation.
Guldager quickly snagged the rebound and helped set up Moore for the lay up. Lipscomb made a furious attempt for a last second equalizer, but sophomore guard Jennifer Bowen quashed the rally, stealing the ball from Lipscomb's Julie Martin to help UNF wrap up the win.
The Ospreys were able to control the flow of the game from the get-go, forcing the Bisons to turn the ball over 18 times and shoot 29.2 percent from the field in the first half. UNF took a 30-23 halftime lead behind the stellar play of senior point guard Denisia Andrews, who scored seven points and racked up five steals.
Freshman center Willonda Windham had a breakout game off the bench, scoring a career-high 12 points, eight of which she tallied in the first half. Guldager led UNF in rebounding for the 13th time this season, pulling down eight boards.
Lipscomb (8-19, 6-11) finished with 28 turnovers, which is the second-most a UNF opponent has committed this season. The Bisons hold the distinction of being No. 1 on the list with 30 in a 53-44 Ospreys win on Dec. 2 in Nashville.
UNF was able to get it done on the scoreboard despite attempting a season-low two free throws, which occurred in the closing seconds of the game.
The Ospreys will finish out their season at 2 p.m. on Saturday against Belmont at UNF Arena. The game will be broadcast on WIOJ-AM 1010 in Jacksonville. Live stats and audio from the game will be available on UNFOspreys.com.
