JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jonathan Rodriguez scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, leading visiting Campbell to a 78-48 win over North Florida in Atlantic Sun Conference basketball action on Tuesday.
Russ Gibson added 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Camels (6-5, 1-0 A-Sun), who outscored UNF 46-19 in the second half for their third win in four games. The double-double was the third of the year for Rodriguez, who scored 13 points in the first half.
Campbell also outrebounded UNF 47-28.
Chris Timberlake led the Ospreys with 14 points, and Aaron Caruthers added 13, but those performances weren't enough to help the Ospreys (2-11, 0-3 A- Sun) overcome a cold-shooting second half. UNF hit just 7-of-22 shots and was 0-of-7 from 3-point range. Campbell, meanwhile hit 6-of-13 shots from 3- point range in the second half to help blow open a close game.
"We looked good early and played well in spots," UNF head coach Matt Kilcullen said. "We have to have each and every players show up every time out for our team to be successful, and we didn't get that tonight. We have to keep working hard and playing hard for 40 minutes."
UNF (2-11, 0-3 A-Sun) looked strong over the first 13 minutes of the game, controlling the tempo and leading by as many as six points of five occasions before the Camels battled back. After a pair of free throws by UNF's Germaine Sparkes pushed the Ospreys ahead 23-17 with 7:33 to play, a 14-2 run by the Camels erased that advantage before halftime. Campbell led 32-29 at the intermission.
In the second half, a quick spurt pushed Campbell out to a 10-point lead in the first three minutes, and a 16-0 run after that put the game out of reach.
UNF returns to action on Thursday night against A- Sun foe Gardner-Webb at UNF Arena. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The game is part of a men's-women's doubleheader, with the UNF women facing Campbell at 5:30 p.m.
