
UNF outlasts GSU, wins in OT

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The University of North Florida men's soccer team posted a 2-1 overtime win over Georgia State on Sunday afternoon in the opening round of the Jacksonville University Invitational, getting the game-winner from Matt Williams in the eighth minute of overtime. With the win, the Ospreys now hold a 2-1 record on the season.
UNF's Akil Burgen gave the Ospreys their first look at a scoring opportunity, posting a shot on goal in the 26th minute. Mark Sergio notched his first goal of the season for the Ospreys in the 39th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Sergio tipped in a pass from Shareef Rajkumar to secure the Ospreys' lead.
Georgia State (0-3) tied the match early in the second half on Alberto Billarreal's goal at the 52:07 mark. The game stayed knotted at one for the duration of regulation play.
The Panthers had the first opportunity to secure a victory in the extra period when Linus Warendh had a shot on goal only three minutes in to overtime. Williams shot came from deep in the box ricocheting off a GSU player to secure the golden goal and the victory for the Ospreys.
UNF plays Central Arkansas (2-1) on Monday at 11:30 a.m. to wrap up play in the JU tournament.
