JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Florida A&M's Maria Andonova dished out 38 kills and tallied 28 digs to help the Rattlers upend UNF 3- 2 at UNF Arena on Wednesday night (27-30, 30-23, 30-28, 24-30, 15-9).
Andonova hit .305 for the match and dominated in the clutch for the Rattlers (5-6), who won for the fifth time in their last six matches. The senior tallied 10 kills in the third and fourth games and added nine in game two to pave the way.
UNF (8-10) hit .251 for the match and recorded more kills than FAMU (83-80) but couldn't find a way to slow Andonova's onslaught. Maegan Weisert led UNF with a career-high 25 kills and 18 digs, while Emily Kohler added 17 kills and 17 digs and Amy Stroder 18 kills and 13 digs.
Jenna Thomas paced the UNF attack and recorded a career-high 70 assists for the Lady Ospreys.
"We fought hard, but we just didn't come up with points at the right times," UNF head coach Bryan Bunn said. "We had a hard time stopping (Andonova), and that is what cost us. We played well, just not well enough."
The Lady Ospreys came out firing in the opening game, hitting .241 and getting seven kills from Stroder to pull away for a 30-27 win. FAMU then took games two and three before the Lady Ospreys put forth one of their most explosive hitting displays of the season in game four.
UNF hit .487 with 21 kills and only two errors to force a decisive game five. Weisert had six kills in 12 attempts to help lead the way and force the final frame.
In game five, however, FAMU committed just one error and took advantage of five by the Lady Ospreys. The Rattlers bolted out to an 8-4 advantage early and never looked back - recording three of their 10 total blocks while getting four more kills from Andonova to pull away.
Wednesday's match was UNF's first at home since Sept. 2.
