TROY, Ala. - The North Florida men's tennis team capped its 2006 season with a hard-fought 4-3 win over Troy on Sunday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Center.

The Ospreys (15-7) won their final four matches of the season to complete their first year competing at the Division I level.

Against the Trojans (8-11), UNF captured the doubles point to take an early lead - getting wins from Jose Terrera and Matias Sigal at the No. 2 position (8-5) and Elad Gabay and Eduardo Pereira at No. 3 doubles (8-4).

In singles, Troy came roaring back - taking wins at the Nos. 1, 4 and 5 positions before UNF restored order. Sigal defeated Troy's Marko Despot, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, and the Ospreys also got wins from Terrera (6-2, 6-2 at No. 3) and Leonardo Gomes (6-1, 6-2 at No. 4) to clinch the victory.

"This was a difficult match, but our guys really fought hard and ended the season with a strong performance," UNF head coach Igal Buberman said. "We are playing our best tennis right now, so it is a shame to see the season end, but we have a lot of players returning next year from this year's team. It was good to end the year with a win."

The Ospreys are not eligible for postseason play because the school is transitioning from Division II to Division I.

Terrera, the team's only senior, finished the spring with a 14-6 singles record and a 17-10 mark overall, including five consecutive wins to end his career. Sigal, meanwhile, was 14-8 in singles play during the spring and led the team with 18 total wins (18-10).
