ORLANDO, Fla. - The North Florida women's tennis team dropped a 5-1 decision to UCF in women's tennis action at the UCF Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
The teams started with singles play due to threatening weather in the area and elected not to play doubles afterward due to impending rain in the forecast.
UNF earned its only point at the No. 4 position, where Catalina Castillo upended UCF's Jennifer Carati, 6-3, 6-3. Robin Rogers also had a strong day at the No. 6 position for the Lady Ospreys, losing in a pair of tie-breaks, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5), to UCF's Kyla McNicol. UNF's Lauren Cockbill also lost in three sets, falling to UCF's Megan Hunter, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4.
"We played a little bit soft at the top of the lineup," UNF head coach Igal Buberman said. "I was hoping we could pull one of the points in the top three, and that would give us a little margin for error and take away some pressure from the bottom (of the lineup). The bottom girls played hard. The tennis level is getting where we want it to be. We just need to be mentally tougher, play stronger and go after teams a little bit more."
The UNF women will return to the courts on Feb. 18 when they travel to Stetson for a noon match.
