DELAND, Fla. - The North Florida men's tennis team opened its inaugural season in the Division I Atlantic Sun Conference with a 5-2 win over Stetson on Saturday afternoon.

The Ospreys - the Division II national runner-up a season ago - have now won three straight matches after a 1-2 start.

UNF (4-2, 1-0 A-Sun) got singles victories from Eduardo Pereira (No. 1), Matias Sigal (No. 2), Elad Gabay (No. 5) and Glen Marshall (No. 6) after sweeping the doubles competition out of the gate to open the match.

Marshall's win came in three sets (6-4, 1-6, 6-3) over Stetson's Eddie Majcher, while Pereira's victory came after a hard-fought opening set, 7-6 (7), 6-3.

"We tried to step on court relaxed and just play our game," UNF head coach Igal Buberman said. "The guys are feeling a little more comfortable on the court every time out. In doubles, we are moving and connecting with our partners very well, and in singles we are very strong. The guys seem to be having a lot of fun, and I'm very happy with how we are playing right now."

The Ospreys will hit the road again on Sunday when they travel to Valdosta State for a 1 p.m. match. The Division II Blazers are ranked 10th in the latest ITA rankings.
