JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The University of North Florida women's soccer team (11-6-2) said goodbye to 10 seniors and a phenomenal 2006 season on Saturday at Hodges Stadium.
Before the Lady Ospreys took on the Central Arkansas Bears (8-7-2) in the teams' final game of the season, the 10 graduating seniors were honored in front of their teammates, family and friends.
UNF took the game through two regulation periods and two overtimes trying for one final victory. The final result ended up being a 2-2 tie, despite the Lady Ospreys out shooting Central Arkansas 21-5 and an all out senior effort.
The scoring began in the 13th minute of play when Amanda Bishop slotted the ball to Laura Hudson, resulting in a Lady Bear goal.
Senior Maegen Pearce evened things up in the 28th minute when she collected the ball from fellow senior Christine Brewer. The goal was Pearce's first goal of the season.
The second half began similarly to the first half, with the Lady Bears jumping on top early. Hudson scored again for UCA in the 50th minute after some congestion in the box allowed Lauren King to slip her the ball.
Pearce not wanting to be out done scored again for UNF on an unassisted goal in the 56th minute. The goal took Pearce's career total to five goals.
Both teams battled for the edge the rest of the game with no success, despite several opportunities. In the first overtime the Lady Ospreys only managed one shot, while the Lady Bears had none.
Senior Heather Gosselin played all 110 minutes in goal recording one save.
The tie against Central Arkansas concludes the Lady Ospreys 2006 season.
