ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The University of North Florida men's soccer team closes out the 2006 season on a two-game winning streak, defeating Flagler 3-1 on Saturday.
Springer scored his first goal of the season, the game-winner from 12 yards out when he received a pass from David Pollard to give UNF a 2-0 lead in the 75th minute. But Flagler countered as Eoin Cassin scored his first collegiate goal moments later, off a rebound, in the 76th minute.
The Ospreys put the game on ice almost immediately when Frank Dinzey, who assisted on the match's first goal, scored off a pass from Springer off the kick off following Cassin's goal, and beat Flagler's keeper to give UNF the 3-1 lead. The goal was 14 seconds after Flagler's goal.
Mark Sergio scored the first goal of the match when Dinzey, who stole the ball from a Flagler player, found him cutting in from the left. Sergio took the pass from 15 yards out and deposited it into the left side of the goal in the 20th minute.
Michael Frost recorded five saves for UNF while his counterpart, Jordan Holtz recorded one save for Flagler.
UNF out-shot Flagler 11-8 and each team had only two corner kicks the entire match.
The Ospreys finished their 2006 campaign with a 6- 11-2 mark.
