NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 22, 2006) - The
University of North Florida golf team is in fifth place
after one round of play at the mason Rudolph
Collegiate, shooting a team score of 298 Sunday
afternoon.
Michael Giammaresi led the Ospreys with an even-par
72 on the 7,190-yard Champions Club layout.
Giammaresi is tied for seventh among all individuals.
"Michael Giammaresi is a senior and one of our
leaders," UNF head coach Scott Schroeder said. "He
played like it today and hopefully he can keep this
pace up the rest of the way."
Host Vanderbilt and Mississippi lead the tournament
after each team shot a 290 on Sunday, while
Tennessee-Chattanooga's Mitchell Brock shot a 68 to
lead all individuals. Brock's UT-Chattanooga's team is
in third place after shooting a 293, one stroke better
than Rice, which is in fourth place.
Jeff Dennis and Micahel O'Neal shot matching 74s to
follow Giammaresi and each stand tied for 17th after
the first round. J.C. Horne and Gavin Cambre each
shot a 78 and are tied for 52nd.
The 14-team field returns to action on Tuesday for
the second round of play, before finishing up the
Mason Rudolph on Wednesday.
