NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Atlantic Sun Conference leading scorer Alysha Clark netted 24 points to help lead Belmont University to a 68-48 victory over the University of North Florida women's basketball team on Saturday at the Curb Event Center in Nashville, Tenn.
The Belmont (12-5, 8-1 A-Sun) win snapped UNF's three-game winning streak. UNF (7-11, 5-5 A-Sun) finished its trip to Nashville with a 1-1 mark after defeating Lipscomb 56-54 on Thursday night.
Belmont held a six-point lead at the half, but broke out in the second frame to outscore the Lady Ospreys 38-24 and stay in the hunt for the top spot in the A-Sun.
Jackie Beik led the Lady Ospreys with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. Tamara Hubbard followed her with six points, while Antoinette Reames had a team high six rebounds and three blocked shots.
A Beik jumper pulled the Lady Ospreys within four with 19 minutes to play in the second half, but Belmont answered with jumpers by Angel Jones and Jessica Bobbit before increasing its lead to nine. The Lady Ospreys cut that back to five on a pair of Hubbard free throws with 14:14 to play. UNF couldn't pull any closer, however, as Clark capped off a 9-0 run to give Belmont a 49-35 advantage.
The Lady Bruins led by as many as 23 in the second half in winning their fourth-straight game.
Belmont won the battle of the boards 38-27, with Clark and Laura Cowley each pulling down a game-high seven rebounds.
UNF committed 24 turnovers compared to 16 for the Lady Bruins.
Belmont closed out the opening half on an 8-2 run and led 30-24 at the break.
UNF used a 7-0 run to take a 22-12 advantage, but Belmont countered with a 10-1 run of its own to take the lead back. The lead changed hands 11 times in the opening half.
The Lady Ospreys are back home next week, where they will get a second look at both Gardner-Webb and Campbell. UNF takes on Gardner-Webb Thursday at 7 p.m. and Campbell on Saturday at 2 p.m. Live coverage of the games can be heard at www.unfospreys.com.
