Early lead fizzles, UNF falls 3-2

SPARTANBURG, S.C - A quick start by the University of North Florida men's soccer team saw the Ospreys jump out to a 2-0 lead over Wofford Sunday night, but the quick start soon fizzled leaving UNF on the short end of a 3-2 match.

The Ospreys (0-3-1) led at halftime after receiving goals from freshmen Rohan Culley and Shareef Rajkumar in the 14^th minute and 15^th minute of the match, respectively.

Freshman Matt Williams assisted on Culley's goal, which was the second goal of the season for the freshman. Rajkumar's goal was the first of his UNF career.

The Ospreys carried their 2-0 lead into the 83^rd minute of play when Brandon Lowery sliced into the UNF lead with a goal of his own on a penalty kick to draw the Terries (3-1-1) to within a goal of the Ospreys. Just over three minutes later Jesus Arroyo-Peco knotted the game at two goals apiece on a penalty kick at the 86:28 mark of the match.

With time running out, Lowery and Arroyo-Peco dashed the Ospreys' hopes of a win when the duo combined to create the Terries' final goal of the match. Lowery converted an Arroyo-Peco pass into the game-winning goal with just 2:18 left to play to give Wofford the win.

The Terries outshot the Ospreys 28-17, including a 15-7 shots on goal advantage. UNF's 17 shots was a season high for the Ospreys. Their previous high was nine against Georgia Southern on Sept. 9.

Culley and sophomore Martin Pettersson led the offensive charge for UNF. Both players tallied four shots, including two shots on goal. Junior Cole Chancellor had three shots, including a shot on goal. No other Osprey recorded more than one shot.

UNF sophomore goalkeeper Michael Frost tallied five saves for UNF. The loss dropped Frost to 0-3-1 on the season.

The Ospreys will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to take on Winthrop. That match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
