
Lady Ospreys split with Florida Gulf Coast

FORT MYERS, Fla.- The University of North Florida women's softball team split a doubleheader on Friday with Florida Gulf Coast University, dropping the first game 2-0 but rebounding to take the second game 5-1.
In game one, FGCU pitcher Kelly Powe picked up the win, allowing just one hit while striking out six Lady Ospreys in the 2-0 victory. Laura Hanstein was the only UNF batter to reach base, doubling in the second inning.
North Florida pitcher Kelli Pitts (6-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in four innings before being replaced by Randalyn Rogers.
In game two the Lady Ospreys pounded out nine hits, as Hanstein, Ashley Parenteau and Kelli Rutenbar each had two.
UNF got on the board in the third when Rutenbar tied the game at 1-1 singling home Parenteau. Hanstein then gave UNF the lead for good, singling home Rutenbar and Christina Evans. The third baseman added an RBI in the fifth with an infield single. North Florida added its fifth run on a wild pitch in the same inning.
Rogers picked up her second win of the season, throwing six innings allowing just one run on five hits.
No. 10 UNF closes out the regular season with a 39- 10 overall record, and will next be in action in the South Atlantic Regional beginning May 12.
