JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The University of North Florida men's tennis team split its two tough road matches on Friday and Saturday, first defeating conference foe No. 13 Columbus State 5-4, then losing to No. 1 ranked West Florida 7-2.

UNF now holds a 7-3 overall mark, and is 2-1 in Peach Belt Conference play.

"Defeating Columbus State was a good win for us," UNF head coach Tom Schrader said. "Every conference match is important, plus defeating a ranked opponent is always good for the team's confidence."

After dropping two matches in doubles against West Florida, North Florida was unable to make up any ground in singles, losing five of six.

"We didn't play our best against West Florida, and we couldn't seem to get anything going", Schrader said. "Playing top ranked teams is a good challenge, and lets you know where you stand. We need to improve if we want to compete against the best."

The Ospreys will next be in action on March 8, when they host Eastern Kentucky at 2 p.m.
