Owls sneak past Ospreys

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  - University of North Florida transfer Eric Arbuzow proved to be the difference maker in the Ospreys' showdown with Atlantic Sun Conference rival Florida Atlantic, as the former Osprey tallied the game-winning goal for his new squad at the 46:02 mark of the match to give FAU a 1-0 win.

Arbuzow got a clear look at the net when he ran free down the left side of the field. Samuel-Eli Dzegede found Arbuzow, setting up the junior forward's shot which sailed just past a diving Kyle Callahan for the game-winner.

The Owls (7-7-0, 4-1-0 A-Sun) outshot UNF 14-13, while the Ospreys (3-8-1, 3-4-0 A-Sun) tallied nine shots on goal to FAU's four. 

"I thought we competed well," UNF head coach Ray Bunch said. "FAU has been one of the top teams in our conference for years, and I think it says something about our guys and where our program is going that we played them tight like we did. Obviously, we wanted to come out with a positive result, but I was pleased with the effort our guys gave."

Junior defender Mats Elmsater led the charge for UNF with three shots, including a shot on goal. Sophomore forward Martin Schuhte tallied two shots on goal for the Ospreys.

Dzegede led the way for the Owls' offense with four shots, including a shot on goal.

UNF will wrap up its 2005 slate on Friday by taking on cross-town rival Jacksonville. That match is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Jacksonville University.
