MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's soccer team saw its winless streak against schools from the state of Florida extended to four matches on Monday with a 2-0 loss to in-state rival Florida Tech.
The Panthers took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when junior Miranda Tessier converted a Tara Eugenides' pass into the game-winning goal at the 44:52 mark of play.
Florida Tech (4-4-1, 0-1-0 Sunshine State Conference) added an insurance goal at the 52:49 mark of play when Ericka Hildreth redirected a rebound past UNF goalkeeper Heather Gosselin. Gosselin played the final 45 minutes of the match, replacing starter Rachael Howard.
Howard tallied one save in the loss.
With the win, the Panthers evened the all-time series at a match apiece.
"We played poorly," UNF head coach Mike Munch said. "That's really all you can say. We played poorly from the front to the back."
The Lady Ospreys (3-5-1, 1-2-0 A-Sun) return to action on Thursday with an Atlantic Sun Conference showdown with Mercer. That match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Macon, Ga.
