BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - North Florida's Magen Wood tallied a match-high 10 kills and hit .318 to lead the UNF volleyball team past Gardner-Webb 3-0 in Atlantic Sun Conference action on Friday night (30-25, 30-21, 31-29).
The Lady Ospreys (12-8, 4-1 A-Sun) hit .205 in winning for the ninth time in their last 11 matches, also recording 10 aces in dispatching the Bulldogs (9-21, 0-7 A-Sun) in straight games. UNF has won four straight matches overall.
Carrie Brinkley got GWU off to a great start by putting UNF on its heels with three service aces in a 6-0 Gardner-Webb run to open the match. North Florida rebounded and steadily chipped into GWU's lead, eventually tying the score at 14-14 on a kill from Amy Stroder. The Ospreys took the lead for good at 20-19 with an ace from Heather Kendrick and pulled away for the 30-25 game-one victory.
Game two started with the Bulldogs grabbing the slim 6-3 edge over North Florida, but the Ospreys quickly rallied to knot the score at 7-7 and steadily pulled away for the 30-21 win. In game three, GWU led early but couldn't hold it.
"We came out a little bit flat but we did what it took to win the match," UNF coach Bryan Bunn said. "We will have to really pick up the tempo for tomorrow because we are playing a really good team in a tough environment."

Heather Kendrick directed the offense for the Lady Ospreys with 37 assists. UNF's
Jenna Thomas had 15 digs.
Gardner-Webb hit just .057 for the match with 27 attack errors, helping fuel its demise. The Bulldogs distributed their errors evenly, committing nine in each game. Ashley Pridgeon led GWU with nine kills, while Bethany Martin had eight. Audra Harrison finished with 21 digs for the Bulldogs.
UNF will complete its two-match swing through North Carolina on Saturday afternoon when it faces A-Sun foe Campbell in Buies Creek at 7 p.m.
