Oct. 14, 2005

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  - Outside hitters Jennifer King and Amy Stroder took control for the North Florida volleyball team on Friday night, helping the Lady Ospreys sweep East Tennessee State 3-0 in Atlantic Sun Conference action at UNF Arena (30-27, 32-30, 30-26).

King finished with 13 kills, 10 digs, three aces and hit .300 while Stroder hit .323 and tallied 12 kills to lead a punishing UNF attack. The Lady Ospreys (11-8, 3-1 A-Sun) hit .285 for the match and had just 17 errors.

The win didn't come easily against what had been the A-Sun's hottest team coming into Friday night. ETSU (14-6, 2-1 A-Sun) had won five straight matches and led late in all three games only to watch UNF rally.

"We played well and showed a lot of poise in those first two games," UNF head coach Bryan Bunn said. "Amy (Stroder) played extremely well again, as did Jennifer King. When your outside hitters hit over .300, it gives you a good shot to win every match."

UNF came out firing early, jumping out to a 14-11 lead in game one. ETSU moved ahead 24-19 from there and looked ready to pull away before Heather Kendrick and King put UNF's comeback in motion. A pair of kills by King and two service aces by Kendrick pushed UNF back in front, 27-26, and ETSU never recovered.

In game two, ETSU led 27-23 and again appeared poised for a win before UNF rallied. King tallied her first ace, a block and two kills in UNF's final nine points to push UNF back in front, 31-30. Her second ace of the game iced the win.

In game three, ETSU led 15-10 but again couldn't hold it. The teams were tied at 26 before kills by Stroder, Emily Kohler and Megan Wood sealed the win with one final flurry.

Kendrick directed the UNF attack with 44 assists and 10 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Jenna Thomas added 10 digs for UNF.

ETSU's Jennifer Sartor led the Buccaneers with 14 kills and hit .355, while Sarah Buhr hit .242 with 11 kills.

UNF returns to action next weelend with an A-Sun road trip to North Carolina to face Gardner- Webb on Oct. 21 and Campbell on Oct. 22.
