MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Attack, attack, attack.
A simple word and a simple plan devised by University of North Florida basketball coach Matt Kilcullen for its matchup against Georgia College & State on Wednesday in Milledgeville, Ga.
That's all Kilcullen wrote on the chalkboard before Wednesday night's game. And that's all his team did in a 79-63 win, its first in Peach Belt Conference play.
"This team has been working hard," Kilcullen said. "Overall, this was our best game top to bottom. We made shots, we made free throws. I'm happy for the team."
Four Ospreys scored in double figures, while Riley Didion was almost a fifth, finishing the game with nine points.
Donny Lotz led UNF (6-13, 1-4 PBC) with 20 points and finished the game with nine rebounds. David Ashwell followed him with 18, while Chris Timberlake and Derrick Scott had 11.
After trailing 12-11, UNF went on an 8-0 run, sparked by four-straight points from Scott. An Anthony Earl Jr. jumper at the 3:54 mark gave UNF a nine-point lead. GC&SU (9-7, 1-4 PBC) cut that advantage to 32-26 at the break.
Donny Lotz scored four of the team's first 10 points of the second frame, helping the Ospreys to a 42-28 lead. The Ospreys eventually led by 17 and cruised to the win from there.
Lotz led all players with nine rebounds, while Didion finished the game with seven. UNF won the battle of the boards 43-26.
Andre Smith led the Bobcats with 16 points, and Ronnie Dennis chipped in 15.
UNF will look for its first winning streak in PBC play this week when it hosts Francis Marion on Saturday at 4 p.m.
