Evander Wells

Evander Wells joined the North Florida coaching staff as an Assistant Coach in the summer of 2023 and was promoted to Associate Track & Field Head Coach in July 2025.

During the 2024-25 season, he continued to elevate the sprinters, jumpers and relay programs totaling 20 combined All-ASUN selections between the outdoor and indoor seasons. This also included three ASUN weekly honors from William Owens and Jonathan Bailey, as well as being an intregal part of Smilla Kolbe's NCAA Outdoor Championship First Team All-American finish for the women's 800m competition.

In his first season at UNF as an assistant coach between indoor and outdoor track & field, he helped put together nine All-ASUN selections, including two First Team honorees. With his focus on sprinters during the 2024 season, he assisting in developing Rey Hernandez into a two-time ASUN Freshman of the Week and Celine D'Anna into a Second Team All-ASUN selection in the 400mH. He also was a part of Smilla Kolbe's run to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800m, as well as her two ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year selections.

Wells served as the head cross country and track and field coach from 2019-2023. In his four seasons, Wells coached over 35 All-Midwest Conference performers, 81 Academic All-Midwest conference honorees, eight MWC Performer of the Week honorees.

During the 2022-23 season, Wells helped sprinter Tyrell Pierce place sixth in the 400m finals at the D-III NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships to earn All-American status. He and Derrick Jackson also qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships, as they both took fifth in their respective events.

Before his time at Knox College, Wells was an assistant track and field coach at Earlham College in Indiana. He instructed sprinters and jumpers, while mentoring 16 student-athletes to league titles in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC).

Wells also served as the recruiting coordinator for the Quakers. Wells coached Earlham sprinter Aishat Sadiq to an eighth-place finish and All-America honors at the 2019 NCAA D-III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, earning Earlham's first All-America honor in any sport since 2008.

As a student-athlete, Wells had a successful sprinting career at the University of Tennessee. He was a four-year member of the Volunteers and a nine-time All-American, as well as an 18-time Southeastern Conference (SEC) finalist.

Wells ranks in the top-10 all-time at Tennessee in the 60m, 100m, and 200m dashes. He qualified for seven NCAA Championships and was a member of the United States NACAC and World Junior Teams.

Wells received his Bachelor of Arts degree in studio art with an emphasis on two-dimensional art in 2010.
