OXFORD, Ala. - No. 1-seeded North Florida softball was led by
Allison Benning's complete-game performance to take down No. 2-seeded Eastern Kentucky to advance to its third ASUN Championship title game over the last four seasons on Friday afternoon at Choccolocco Park.
In a battle between the top two players in the ASUN Conference, Benning showed to be the superior two-way player spinning a complete game with five strikeouts and only one run allowed. The senior went into the sixth inning with a no-hitter in tact and only allowed four hits through the entirety of the game.
The Ospreys were the first to put a run on the board with
Kalyn McCarthy scoring off a fielding error by EKU's infielder. After each defense continued to shine through four,
Kirsten Caravaca added another run to UNF's total with an RBI single up the middle to score
Lauren Brock.
An RBI single from the Coloniels made it a one-run game in the sixth inning, but a great defensive play by
Addyson Bruneman up the middle cut the EKU run short. The Ospreys finished the game strong with three more outs in the seventh to clinch their ticket to the conference title game for a second consecutive season.
