CARROLLTON, Ga. - North Florida softball went back to its winning ways in the series finale against West Georgia with a dominant 7-2 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Ospreys struck early and often with an RBI double from
Kirsten Caravaca in the first, followed with a two-run RBI knock from
Allison Benning in the second.
Mackenzie Woods opened up the game in the third inning with a two-run home to left field for her fourth of the season.
UNF added an a sac-fly score from
Hadlee Reichert to bring
Marley Nagy home in the fifth inning. Caravaca added another RBI double in the sixth to make it a 7-0 ballgame and put it out of reach for the Wolves.
With the win against West Georgia on Sunday, Woods surpassed former Osprey teammate Kayla McGory to become the winningest player in D-I program history. She has been with the program since 2021 and is looking to help UNF make her third ASUN Championship title game appearance in four years this season.
North Florida, who was ranked No. 12 in the D1Softball Mid-Major poll on Wednesday, leads all ASUN teams with a 14-1 conference record as the first and only team so far to clinch a spot in the ASUN Championship tournament. They maintain a five-game lead over FGCU for the Graphite Division title with nine games left on the schedule, including their regular season series finale in Fort Myers, Fla.
