Baseball Splits Doubleheader Against Notre Dame

Ospreys Fall 19-6, Win 8-1 Against Fighting Irish

Game 1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Kai Etwaru tossed three hitless innings but the North Florida Ospreys fell to Notre Dame 19-6 in front of 1,078 fans from Harmon Stadium.

Locked in a 4-4 tie, Notre Dame's (2-0) Bino Watters worked a one out walk. Estevan Moreno followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position. With runners at second and third, Carson Tinney cracked a two-run single to give the Fighting Irish the lead. Parker Brzustewicz continued the hot hitting with an RBI double which made it 7-4. Two batters later, Nick DeMarco drove in Brzustewicz with a two-out single. North Florida (0-2) walked four straight after the single and allowed two more runs. With the bases loaded, Moreno (1) cracked a grand slam as Notre Dame took a commanding 14-4 lead.

The Ospreys fought back in the bottom of the sixth. Drew Leinenbach (1) ripped a two-run home run which made it 14-6.

The Fighting Irish offense did not slow down. Brzustewicz and Zimbardo smacked back-to-back singles to start the seventh inning. Following a flyout, Brzustewicz scored on a wild pitch. With a runner at second, DM Jefferson singled home Zimbardo. With two outs, Noah Coy worked a walk and Watters (1) clobbered a three-run home run to go up 19-6.

North Florida struck first in game one of the doubleheader. Nick Monile reached on an error to lead off the first inning. Mitchell Collins worked a walk and Connor Moore scored Monile on an RBI single. With runners at first and second, Jabin Bates was hit by a pitch. With bases full of 'Spreys, Cade Bush laced a two-run single to give North Florida a 3-0 advantage.

Notre Dame fought back in the third. With one out, Watters singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Moreno singled through the left side as the Fighting Irish put runners at first and third. Tinney and Brzustewicz followed with back-to-back RBI singles which made it a one-run game. With runners at first and second, Jayce Lee singled to load the bases. A bases loaded walk and a fielder's choice scored two and put Notre Dame up by one.

The Ospreys tied the game in the sixth. James Oman led off the inning with a single. Following a strikeout, Monile and Collins both worked walks and loaded the bases. Bates was hit by a pitch and UNF tied the game. The Fighting Irish escaped the inning one batter later with a clutch strikeout.

Game 2

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Strong pitching from Will Ross and Bryson Treichel helped propel North Florida to an 8-1 win over Notre Dame in front of 1,078 fans, Saturday from Harmon Stadium.

Trailing 1-0, Finn Howell (1) cracked his first career collegiate home run to tie the game up. Nick Monile followed with a single. Two batters later, Connor Moore reached on a ground-rule double. With runners at second and third, Carter White smoked a two-run double to give North Florida a 3-1 lead. 

UNF continued their hot hitting in the seventh. With two outs, Monile walked. Jabin Bates cracked a double to left to bring home the Ospreys' fourth run of the game. He advanced to third on a wild pitch, and following a walk would score on a second wild pitch. White walked and Santiago Ordonez reached on a hit by pitch to load the bases. With the bases full of Ospreys, Mitchell Collins scored two on a single to right field. One pitch later, Drew Leinenbach laced an RBI single which gave North Florida eight runs on the night.

Notre Dame struck first in the third inning of the series finale. Nick Demarco reached on a missed catch at first base. Noah Coy also reached on an error from a bunt to third base. A fielder's choice moved DeMarco to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly from Parker Brzustewicz which put the Fighting Irish ahead 1-0.
Ross and Treichel both had stellar outings in their first appearances in 2025. Ross allowed one unearned run in four innings while Treichel went three scoreless. They combined to strikeout nine.
