Men's Basketball Snags Hard-Fought Overtime Win Over Stetson

Jasai Miles Scored 18 Points, Five Other Ospreys Finish In Double Figures

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's basketball prevailed over Stetson, 101-100, with a wild atmosphere in the final minutes that featured overtime on Wednesday evening in UNF Arena.

Six Ospreys finished with double-digit scoring marks, but it was sophomore guard Jasai Miles leading the way with a team-high 18 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field with seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Freshman forward Josh Harris added a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double, while posting four blocks as well.

Senior guard Nate Lliteras and sophomore guard Jaylen Smith each posted 16 points, but it was Lliteras who had a sharp-shooting 4-for-7 performance from distance while snagging five rebounds and two steals. Lliteras had the game-winning drive to the bucket with two seconds left to lift the Ospreys to a one-point victory.

Senior forward Liam Murphy (17) and Junior guard Kamrin Oriol (10) combined for 27 points off the bench. Murphy was 3-for-10 from three-point range and grabbed five rebounds. Oriol was 4-for-11 from the field and dished out two assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

FIRST HALF: Senior guard Nate Lliteras led the way offensively in the opening minutes with three-pointers from the right wing and top of the key as UNF narrowly trailed 8-6 just over five minutes in…freshman forward Josh Harris kissed a layup off the glass that knotted the score at 13 apiece with 12:09 left in the first half…North Florida notched an 18-17 lead when senior guard Oscar Barry was fouled shooting a three-pointer from the right corner and made 2-of-3 from the charity stripe…From there, UNF got red hot, as sophomore guard Jaylen Smith capped off a 15-2 run with a coast-to-coast layup with 2:33 remaining before the Ospreys took a 44-35 lead into halftime.

SECOND HALF: Harris kept the Hatters at bay just over two minutes in with a layup as UNF led 50-39…Stetson senior forward Jordan Wood drilled a three-pointer that cut the Ospreys lead to five before UNF junior guard Kamrin Oriol came off the bench and made a three of his own to push the difference back to double digits roughly midway through…Wood knocked down a left-corner three that shrunk North Florida's lead to 85-81 with 1:18 left in regulation and made what would've been a dagger three from the top of the key that put the Hatters up 86-85 before Smith was fouled and made a free throw to send the game to overtime.

OVERTIME: Miles finished a driving layup just four seconds into the period and Miles made a three-pointer from the left wing that saw North Florida lead 91-88 with 4:24 to go…Stetson junior guard Abramo Canko made a baseline floater that tied the score at 94 with 2:46 to play…down the stretch, Lliteras made a contested three-pointer from the left corner and a driving go-ahead layup that proved to be the difference.
