DeLAND, Fla. - Struggles in singles play led to North Florida women's tennis (8-9) falling in its second match of the week to Stetson (9-6) on Saturday afternoon.
The Ospreys had a great start to the match by winning the doubles point, but fell behind in singles play leading to the Hatters taking the lead and maintaining it throughout the rest of the match. Stetson would go on to win the match 5-2 over the Ospreys.
UNF put together a nice string of points going up on all courts early on. After many back-and-forth points, the Hatters and the Ospreys would find themselves both with a win on a court.
Jasmin Makela and
Sofia Snitko would ultimately give UNF the win they needed on court three to go up on Stetson going into singles play.
The Ospreys struggled throughout singles play and could not find momentum to help them claim three out of the six courts to win. Stetson took three courts in straight sets to take the 3-1 lead and only needed one more court to secure the win.
Amy Kaplan,
Alisa Lyshko, and
Jasmin Makela all were able to force third sets, but it wasn't enough in the 5-2 loss.
Next up for the Ospreys, they will travel to Louisville, Ky., to take on Bellarmine on Friday, Apr. 5, at 11 a.m., at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
