Women’s Tennis Excels in Singles to Beat North Alabama

Anslee Long clinches the 4-3 Win Over Lions

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Pushed by its dominant play in singles matches, North Florida women's tennis (8-7) defeated North Alabama (9-6), 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at UNF Tennis Complex.

North Alabama started the match very strong by taking the doubles point, which needed all three courts to decide the winner. The Ospreys were once again in a scenario where they had to win four out of the six courts in singles play to bring home the win. They did exactly what they needed to do and went on to take the last match of its home stand over the Lions.

Going into singles play, UNF continued where they left off in their last match against Lipscomb with Alisa Lyshko winning in straight sets. After a back-and-forth match, the Ospreys found themselves tied with North Alabama once again, 2-2.

This would not last long, as Jasmin Makela would win her court in the third set to give the Ospreys a 3-2 lead over UNA. Only needing one more point to secure the win, it came down to Anslee Long, who pulled off a comeback from down 1-5 to win 7-5 in the third set to giving the UNF the win and improve their record to 3-1 in conference play.

Next up for the Ospreys, they will go on the road to take on Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday, Mar. 28, at 5 p.m., in Fort Myers, Fla.
