JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's tennis (5-8) picked up its third straight win, as they took down Jacksonville State (11-7) in a match that took all seven points and multiple tiebreaks to decide in a 4-3 win on Wednesday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.
The Ospreys lost the point in doubles play, as they dropped its doubles point for the first time since Mar. 1, when they played ITA No. 35 FAU. While it took all three courts to decide the point, a loss in tiebreak on flight three was the deciding factor of the doubles point.
UNF kept battling in singles, as we dropped court six, but picked up wins on courts six and three. Both
PJ Kotan and
Rodrigo Crespo won their matches in straight sets to tie the score at 2-2.
Jonas Hartenstein battled in his top flight matchup, but fell to the Gamecocks' line one player to leave the match to
Juan Pablo Cenoz and
Andreas Scott on the fourth and fifth courts.
Cenoz won a tiebreaker in the first set and eased his way to a sweep, leading to a winner-take-all match for Scott. The fifth-flight player took all three sets to notch the victory for the Ospreys, executing on the comeback rally in a 4-3 win.
The Ospreys host two more matches at home this weekend to close out the homestand, as they are set to take on the Lipscomb on Friday, Mar. 22, at 5 p.m., followed by a match against the North Alabama on Sunday, Mar. 24, at 3 p.m., at the UNF Tennis Complex.
