Women's Basketball Falls to Jacksonville in River City Rematch

Adams Earned Career-High 22 Points, Taub Reaches 10 Rebounds

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's basketball fell short in its rematch against Jacksonville on the road, as it suffered a 73-60 loss to the Dolphins on Saturday afternoon.

The Ospreys held a four-point lead heading into the break at halftime, but a third-quarter slump put UNF out of reach in the 13-point defeat in the River City Rumble. Jayla Adams had a fantastic individual performance with 22 points, while Kaila Rougier scored 13 points and Sarah Taub brought down 10 rebounds.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

First Half: Ospreys got off to a quick start with a pair of layups from Adams and Taub, as well as the first three of the game coming from Rougier...an and-one bucket from Rougier tied the game at 10 a piece just before the end of the first period...Ospreys went on another run with scores from Adams, Lyric Swann and Selma Eklund to go up by five points...back-to-back scores from Kyla Cain and Adams from deep put the lead back out to six...Adams finished with a layup and a pair of free throws to lead UNF to a four-point lead at the half.

Second Half: Coming out of the break, Ospreys stopped a JU run with Rougier and Taub making a pair of layups...the Dolphins started to extend its lead, but Adams made another and-one bucket to cut the deficit to five...Swann made the next field goal for UNF with just over a minute left in the third to keep the game within single digits...Eklund scored, followed by a Rougier trey to get the scoring back up to start the fourth...Rougier and Adams scored late baskets for the Ospreys, but it was too little, too late in a 73-60 loss in the rivalry game at JU.

COACH'S THOUGHTS

"I thought we were in control of the game throughout the first half. But our defense gave up 27 points in the third quarter. JU shot 3-3 from three in that quarter and we were 0-4. We gave up 10 offensive rebounds in the second half, and only grabbed 3 of our own. We shot the ball terribly from 3 today but even so, rebounding covers your butt in games like that. We gave them 18 second chance points. Tough to win games when you combine poor shooting with a lack of rebounding. One positive takeaway was our guards ability to push the ball and get downhill on drives. I was proud of our 24 FT attempts. Jayla [Adams], Kaila [Rougier] & Sarah [Taub] had a lot to do with that."
-- head coach Erika Lambert
